Cambridge Easter egg
The Austin Seven on the Senate House roof, Cambridge
How did an Austin Seven end up on the roof?
The story
One morning in June 1958, Cambridge woke up to find an Austin Seven van parked on the roof of the Senate House.
A group of engineering students had hoisted it up overnight. Nobody could work out how they'd done it.
Getting it down was far harder than getting it up. It took the authorities days.
The Senate House is still where the University holds its graduation ceremonies. Stand on King's Parade, look at the roofline and picture a small van sitting on top.
